Meerea Park Terracotta Syrah 2016 13.5% Hunter Valley Australia
Terracotta wines get their name from the soils on which the fruit is grown. These red clay soils are renowned for their low fertility thus reducing yield of the vine and increasing fruit concentration and depth. This is from the “Lochleven Estate” old vine Shiraz in Pokolbin. This includes 2% Viognier.
33% new French oak matured for 17 months in cask.
Sumptuous ripe plum and blueberry fruit aromas waft tantalizingly out of the glass. On the palate medium bodied dark fruit flavours dominate, spicy oak nuances, beautifully balanced fruit and acidity provides a lovely mouthfeel. This is terrific.
This outstanding Syrah is crafted to my mind in the style of an elegant Cote Rotie.
