Chateau Begadan 2015 Cru Bourgeois Medoc 13%
60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
This is cultivated from the famous Medoc of the Bordeaux region. The vineyard is 27 hectares with an average age of the vines being 35 years. Matured for 18 months in French oak barrels. Medoc is the name for the whole peninsula North of Bordeaux, but it is also the name of the appellation. The Medoc’s poor gravel soils and terroirs formed from Pyrenean glaciers during the Ice Age are perfect for the nourishment of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and the clay and sandy soils perfect for Merlot.
Gold medal winner in Paris. Beautiful ruby colour. On the nose, lovely aromas of raspberry, ripe dark cherry, prune, a touch of hay and minerality. On the palate, the tannins are well-integrated. A lot of character with a solid structure. Lovely fruity finish with perfumes of ripe cherry and blackberry enhanced by subtle spicy notes and hints of smoke. Drinking well now but will cellar for a few more years.
